The J 22 and Rhodes 19 are currently used. But competitive blind sailors use almost any boat available.
SailBlind is a group of blind or visually impaired sailors of all levels of ability. Novice and recreational sailors can sail each week in Boston Harbor at the Courageous Sailing Center, a community based sailing facility. Recreation sailors sail in small 19 ft keel boats - Rhodes 19. Competitive blind or visually impaired sailors also meet each week to practice racing skills sailing on J 22s. Competitive sailors are eligible for regatta competition held in Newport August 21-22 and in Boston Sept 27-28. The best blind and visually impaired sailors will be selected to compete in the Blind Sailing World Championships in England in June of 1997.
